(24,853 posts)Two steps max. The toss to Tejada turned him the opposite way he normally would have turned. Utley got his bell rung by running into Tejada's ass. It almost looked like Mark Sanchez and his "butt fumble".
Of course when you're standing on first base with one out you're thinking break up the double play. Try finding some old footage of Pete Rose doing the same thing... shouldn't be hard. And yeah, I have an admittedly biased opinion but who were the two biggest crybabies last night? Ron Darling and Pedro Martinez. Hell, Martinez demanded to the name of the person who called Utley safe after the fact.
Tough luck for Tejada to be sure, but I honestly don't think there was bad intent.

(9,350 posts)Chase Utley should be suspended for the rest of the playoffs and maybe even all of next season. First, he did not have to slide in order to get to the base. Second, his slide was nowhere near the base.

(16,113 posts)And while this one looks worse then most, it's still a pretty routine and legal play under most circumstances. Just a few weeks ago, the pirates lost their SS for the rest of the season on a takeout slide.

(42,998 posts)Because in a serious of very rational tweets he explained why he had no issues with what happened, and why he'd be sad if he couldnb't play due to a slide like that but not mad. Clearly an award winning shortstop knows nothing about this topic. Also Werth of the Nats does a similar slide given the opportunity but I've never heard him called a bad name becaue no one had the bad luck to get injured. It was moren a poorly executed slide than malicious.
And head hunting is stupid. If the Mets do it they deserve to lose after Harvey or someone like that gets thrown out. Because umps will be watching for that shit

Really.
It's a legal play, though I don't care for it considering the potent for injury, especially since it occurred so far out of the base path.
None-the-less, I won't be surprised to see some kind of retribution.

(20,365 posts)Tejada clearly tagged the bag for the force long before Utley slid into him. Why is everyone saying that he didn't?

(42,998 posts)That Pittsburgh had a player Kang, hurt in the same type of event in August and not ONE PEEP from MLB about it. The hypocrisy from MLB is unbelievable. You know if he wasn't hurt this wouldn't even have been an issue
