A year after deflate-gate ballooned, science shows shame of it all

One year ago this week, an Indianapolis Colt named D'Qwell Jackson intercepted a Tom Brady pass in the AFC championship game.

The ball soon found its way into the hands of Brian Seabrooks, the Colts' assistant equipment manager, who was suspicious of its inflation level. He quickly had an intern measure it from the sideline (and in the approximately 48-degree temperature of Foxborough, Mass.). When it came in under the NFL minimum 12.5 pounds per square inch, everyone from Colts executives to officials and even an NFL vice president believed it was proof of blatant cheating.

The entire case worked backward from there, even if science says the psi level was probably exactly where it should naturally be and thus nothing unnatural, let alone nefarious, was occurring.

Science, of course, meant nothing in this case. At least not at the time.

But it doesn't. So many questions remain. From the comments:

So if SCIENCE shows it was a barometric law, then they should have checked each ball, and thus had an equivalent loss of pressure in each ball, right? Wrong, this shill writer, and every other patriot fan will sideline the BLATANT cheating that they're known for. The sad part is that the team had enough talent to win on merit, but under a lying snake like bilicheat, they felt they needed to exploit every advantage, including cheating. Then just fall back on "misinterpreted the rules" bs and all is forgiven in thier twisted dishonest point of view. ASTERISK!

------

I still believe the Patriots tampered with the balls, that is obvious with the text messages and taking the balls after the officials checked them. I think most people that are mad about it are not mad about the deflated balls but the way the Patriots handled it with the strong denials, destruction of evidence, etc. The official working the game said he never in his plus 15 years officiating had a team take the balls back into their possession after they were checked. Even if they were not convicted of cheating their innocence has not been proven either...why were there all those damning text messages if there was not tampering going on? No-one can explain that. The jury will always be out on this until the truth comes out, I predict that will happen when Brady and Belichick retire and the ball boy and locker room attendant get a book deal. As Dan Wetzel knows it is all about money right now just like this article. Also, nothing can be proven either way unless they measured the air temp in the balls prior to the game and when the ball was confiscated but you can make assumptions just as Dan does in this article.

and then stopped. They knew showing the Colts balls as under-inflated also would screw up their smear job. As for your BS about evidence, they worked backwards to find a crime that fit the flimsy evidence...harmless messages in the minds of haters got blown out of proportion. No, the truth will come out and Pagano was behind it.

He's the one who had their equipment guy check the ball, a clear violation of the rules, instead of handing it over to the refs, as required. He's scum.
