NFL apparently had no proof of PED use beyond the claims of Charles Sly

Posted by Mike Florio on August 31, 2016, 4:11 PM EDT

The statement clearing Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers, and James Harrison admits that the NFL found “no credible evidence” of a PED violation by the players. Which confirms that the NFL insisted that the three players submitted to interviews without “credible evidence” that they had done anything wrong.

And that leaves an important question unresolved about the circumstances that allow the NFL to compel players to provide evidence that could be used against them under the PED policy — apart from the agreement that they periodically will provide a urine sample. How much evidence is needed to require a player to show up and sit down and answer questions? Can it be a tweet from someone who makes the claim of PED use? A Facebook post? A tip provided to the league office, either anonymously or with a name attached to it?

Like so many other things the NFL does (and doesn’t) do, this one seems to be driven by P.R. Because the Al Jazeera report implicated Peyton Manning and in turn became a national sensation, the NFL felt compelled to explore the rabbit hole even after determining that the person making the accusations, former Guyer Institute intern/employee/whatever Charles Sly, was not credible as to Peyton Manning.

Clay Matthews, Julius Peppers and James Harrison cleared by NFL in PED investigation

By Tribune news services

AUGUST 31, 2016, 4:52 PM | NEW YORK

NFL stars James Harrison, Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers can start the regular season without having the specter of a league investigation over whether they used performance-enhancing drugs hanging over their heads.

The NFL cleared all three players on Wednesday, saying there was "no credible evidence" the players were guilty of any of the claims made in a documentary by Al-Jazeera America in January.

An NFL statement said "the investigation involved witness interviews, a review of relevant records and other materials, electronic research, and laboratory analysis and review."

The league threatened Harrison, Matthews, Peppers and free agent Mike Neal with indefinite suspensions if they did not meet with investigators.

and that no "credible evidence" of any wrongdoing would be found. The NFL and the owners wouldn't benefit in any way from finding any evidence on this, and by an amazing coincidence, they didn't.

I had a feeling the investigation would lead to this provided the NFL players didn't confess.

I suppose after going through all of the players medical, financial, phone and text records, it's possible that they might find some evidence that points them to other possible corroborating information, but since they didn't find anything in there for any of these players, there's not much they can do without the confession.

Let's ignore the two baseball players implicated who later failed tests. PED Payton and his goondad sure did a good job smearing th AL Jazeera report and the so called journalists never even dug to see if the report had any merit

I definetely thinks it has merit, they had a British athlete with a hidden camera on his backpack and went around trying to buy dope. Charlie Sly was the one who said all this stuff, he even knew Tyler Teagarden who he himself claimed to the camera he used Delta 2 for the Chicago Cubs.

I don't the NFL could dispute his wife was mailed the stuff, the only thing was Manning claimed through a lawerly statement his wife takes it and is a personal matter between her and her doctor.

When asked to be interviewed for the story. PAYLESS didn't, but instead sent two goons straight to Sly who immediately recanted
Great how he knew exactly who to send the goons to
The NFL doesn't want to know the truth in this matter.
