Mark Sanchez is out and Austin Davis is in.
The Broncos released Sanchez as part of a final wave of roster cuts, then quickly scooped up veteran Austin Davis to be their third quarterback on the roster.
The release of Sanchez, who immediately signed with the Cowboys, saved the Broncos at least $3.5 million in cap space (could be more with offsets) and a 2017 seventh-round draft pick that was dangled in the trade with Philadelphia earlier this year. The Broncos had previously approached Sanchez about reducing his $4.5 million salary and had tried to trade him, but were unable to reach a deal before the 2 p.m. roster deadline Saturday.
(snip)
A five-year veteran, Davis started eight games for the Rams in 2014, throwing for 2,001 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Davis spent last season with the Browns, but played only three games (two starts) and threw for 547 yards, one touchdown and three picks.
