Interesting Baseball Factoid

Last two days the two WS participants won their home openers with walk off hits. It's only the second time it ever happened.

Happened in 2008. Both the Dodgers and White Sox won their home openers with walk off hits.

The last two days, Cubs and Indians did it too. Against? The White Sox and the Dodgers!

Happened only twice in 115 years and the same teams were involved on both sides of that coin. Wow, indeed.

Actually, that's true of all sports. Fans love their numbers!

ETA: Stats are pretty much what drives sports radio programming, after the games themselves.

There, by definition, is a stat for everything! Even Tebow has baseball stats. They suck, but they exist!

Baseball? Fine it's made for stats but football and basketball? Too fluid of sports to pin everything down by numbers.

You are right about talk radio. Just today I heard the local show talking about Pro Foitball Focus (owned by Chris Collinsworth) rating Gronk as the third best TE in the NFL....uh yeah. The Browns hired the Oakland A's former analytics guy to revamp their player assessment system for the draft and free agency. Hell why not? At this point it can't do anything but help.

The radio guys got it wrong on the year. It wasn't the Dodgers and White Sox. It occurred to me that the Sox didn't beat the Dodgers that year.

Looking it up, it was the White Sox LOSING to the Dodgers in 1959!!! So, the last time it happened was in 1960, or 57 years ago, but still involved those same two teams.

Joey, below, said thanks to the internets. Yep. When i questioned the Sox/Dodger match up, it took me 20 seconds to find the correction.

I didn't think the Dodgers had been in the huntbthat recently - I mean except for the last few years.
