The writer is Shane Ryan, a sports reporter and writer and he captures the essence of the love-hate relationship many golfers share.
The world of golf, like almost anything today, is permeated with politics. In general, professional golfers-- both men and women-- tend to be Republicans. One survey of the PGA Tour indicated that the players went for Trump 80% versus 20% for Hillary Clinton. A key quote for the column: The red flags I had been able to ignore the endless evidence that American professional golfers are, with few exceptions, the entitled products of a selfish, insular and elitist culture of wealth now struck me as offensive and enraging.
On the other hand, if Mr. Ryan has given up the game, that means there will be one less golfer taking up a tee time!

They wouldn't know a bootstrap if one fell out of the sky and landed across their putter shaft.

(22,031 posts)On Sunday afternoon, while the entitled self-important brats were playing in the Open Championship, there was no way I was going to sit in front of a TV. So, I played Bethpage Red on Long Island instead and had a wonderful time with three strangers who became good friends for the duration of our round.
Hit 'em straight, Professor.

It's the freaking British Open!
That said, I think there's more to learn watching the LPGA.
Precision and consistency is something we can all learn to do better. I'll never learn to hit 360, especially at almost 61 years old
Keep it in play, choose the right club, be good when a green is missed and make putts. That's what those women do!
I hit 13 greens, made two birdies, got up & down 2 of 5. Those women would have made 2 more birds, and one less bogey for at least a 70
We can learn those improvements
If I juiced and worked out 4 hours a day, I still wouldn't hit it 3 bills
