(34,095 posts)I forgot that it had started! LOL, I hardly ever miss much even if I have to be up at 4 AM to watch and I missed this. Makes me sad. I love Venus.

(6,973 posts)I was expecting Venus to at least get a few rounds in, and not get injured because she came into this years French Open with SO little match play, but being knocked out in round 1? I wasn't expecting that 😪 But when you're making 30 plus errors a match, well She's not won a slam match since last September if I remember correctly. This is also the first time in her career that she's been knocked out in a Round 1 singles slam event (She lost to Bencic in round 1 of the this years AO Open). She had excellent chances to win 2 singles slams last year, but came up just short.
Venus is 37, and she no longer can come into tournaments with little to NO match play, and expect to make an impact, and especially not on clay and she knows that. She's had a solid career on clay, but it takes a lot out of a body, and she's already dealing with Sjogrens. She should skip singles at the FO next year and play doubles if she wants to put in some work in prep for Wimbledon. Roger Federer started limiting his play on clay 3 years ago, and this is his 3rd year in a row that he's skipping the French Open. He's concentrated on grass and hard courts these last 3 years, because he doesn't want to tax his body anymore than it needs to be taxed, nor does he want to hurt his back. Venus & Serena are signed up for doubles at the FO this year, so there's still that. Wimbledon's coming, but I'm not sure how Venus will go about preparing for that tournament.
As for Serena, she's just coming back after giving birth to a daughter as we know, and she had a c-section & difficult post-birth. So, I'm just hoping that she CAN get in at least 2 rounds in and stay healthy as well during doubles. It would be nice IF she and Venus could at least go 2 & possibly 3 rounds in doubles and stay healthy.
Here's hoping that it happens

(64,877 posts)I really like her a lot. I love the excitement in a big tennis tournament when there is a possibility of the sisters going head to head at some point.
Well, not this year, so far.
Maybe Wimbledon.

(27,794 posts)I like Venus and Serena, but they are both aging out (sadly) and we need some new stars to make the women's game fun to watch again.
I like the French because my favorite player is Rafa, and it's his best surface.
