Bob Costas Officially Departs NBC After 40-Year Tenure
One of the titans of broadcasting has officially left the place where he made his name. An era has well and truly ended.
Bob Costas and NBC have officially parted ways. Costas, who has called everything from baseball to basketball to golf and everything in between, had been employed by the peacock network since 1979.
To the most recent generations of fans, Costas was known as the voice of the Olympics, coverage for which he had hosted since 1988. Costas began the process of stepping down from his on-air roles following the 2016 Olympics in Rio, but things only became official of late.
Costas' voice is the backdrop to some of the most important, memorable moments in recent baseball history. Costas called several World Series, especially during the Yankees' run of four titles in five years starting in 1996.
He is expected to continue to host and call games for MLB Network.
