Alliance of American Football suspends operations

Another failed venture despite some glowing reviews of the action on the field. Wonder if the return of the XFL will go any better? Wouldn't put money on it!

The Alliance of American Football is suspending operations Tuesday, a source told ESPN's Michael Rothstein, confirming multiple reports.

The league will hold a call with all players and staff at 1 p.m. ET Tuesday afternoon, the source said.

Tom Dundon, who became the AAF's majority owner in February, had said last week that the league was in danger of folding without help from the National Football League Players Association. Dundon, who also owns the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, made a $250 million investment in the AAF last month after the league reportedly was in danger of not making payroll.

The eight-team AAF, billed as a development league, kicked off the weekend following the Super Bowl. The league is seven games into its 10-game regular season.

JOHNNY MANZIEL HITS L.A. Club after breakup, head injury

4/1/2019

Johnny Manziel's had a rough few weeks -- he's single and he's injured -- so the star QB hit up an L.A. hot spot for some dance club therapy.

TMZ Sports got video of Manziel, solo, walking into Nightingale Plaza -- a West Hollywood club -- a little after 1 AM early Monday morning.

It's unclear what he did inside ... or how long he stayed at the spot.

Things haven't exactly been goin' Manziel's way lately ... Bre Tiesi wiped Johnny from her Instagram page and publicly accused him of breaking their wedding vows -- a year after they were married.

To make things worse ... Saturday afternoon -- in only his 2nd game QBing for the AAF's Memphis Express -- Manziel sustained a head injury while tackling former NY Giants player Will Hill ... after he picked off a Johnny pass.

Manziel laid injured on the field ... and had to be helped off. He didn't return to the game.

It doesn't matter if he experiences a high or low, he will default back to his self destructive behavior; Johnny is going to do what Johnny is going to do.

I have my suspicions, but did we ever learn the skinny on why Manziel was tossed from the Canadian Football League?

On both Golic & Wingo and on another ESPN radio show:
The CFL has a contract provision that prohibits players or agents from contacting other leagues for opportunities during the season.
He made contact with both AAF & NFL teams, which breached the contract.

to advise them to not contact any AAF players until the smoke clears for fear of lawsuits.

I wonder how the pending NFL draft will be affected with the new pool of proven talent waiting in the wings for a shot at the big game. Can you say buyers market, Baby? I suspect it won't have much impact on the first round draft picks, but I'm guessing some lesser players are going to be bummed out when they get passed over.

However, these players will not affect the draft one way or another. All these players were playing in the AAF because they couldn't get a roster spot in the NFL or CFL. All of the new signees are looking at backup/special teams positions.
