Seahawks acquire DE Jadeveon Clowney from Texans
Jadeveon Clowney has landed in Seattle.
The Seahawks acquired the pass rusher from the Houston Texans in exchange for a third-round pick, linebacker Jacob Martin and pass rusher Barkevious Mingo, a source told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Any trade agreement can't be consummated until after Clowney signs his tender. The ability to sit out gave the pass rusher a modicum of leverage in forcing his way toward a preferred destination.
This week reports surfaced that the Texans were in talks with the Miami Dolphins about a potential trade, and Clowney met with team brass. The pass rusher, however, reportedly resisted moving to South Beach and preferred the Pacific Northwest.
Seattle is in need of pass rush help after jettisoning Frank Clark this offseason. First-round pick L.J. Collier is rehabbing an offseason ankle injury and free-agent signee Ziggy Ansah remains a question mark after dealing with several injuries the past few seasons. Clowney would fill a massive hole on a playoff-caliber squad.
