Just a thought.

Baseball hitters with all their body armor and extensive helmets make their stats incomparable with old time hitters. The ability to crowd the plate and hit pitches on the outsider corner with impunity was something not available to hitters in previous generations. Not without taking one in the head.

Just an observation.

All sports are different today. The athletes are bigger, stronger and faster than in the past. This is true even without any chemical enhancements.

The technologies are so much better today, as well. Baseballs go farther, golf clubs are bigger and more reflexive, sailboats are faster and tennis rackets are bigger, too.

You observation is excellent, kaiross12. It's impossible to compare an athlete's accomplishment from 50 years ago with those of today. The world has changed.

Plus, there are 162 baseball games in a season; it used to be 154! (wink)

Is today's music "better"?

Are today's basketball players "faster"?

Are today's baseball sluggers "stronger"?

It's not a fair comparison at all.

Nutrition is better and that alone has led to people being taller and stronger. Sports medicine and treatments are better. Coaching and knowledge of psysiology is advanced.

And yes, all the gear helps too!
