6. Absolutely right. Even a Pony League level of base running and that's one out.

Great heads up play by Goldy to go home, catching the lead runner off third base, and best case should be Cards erase the lead runner and it's 2 out with cubs on 1st and 2nd

But the base runners didn't get to a base and stand there - which is all it would have taken to close that play down - they got the deer in the headlight syndrome and ran into the second out

7. What Did You Expect?

It's the Iowa Cubs.
If the Ricketts had just not acted like paupers and traded away their best players (aside from Contrares) these guys would mostly be in Des Moines.
On WGN I saw an interview with a fan from Iowa that came to Wrigley. The guy said, "If I wanted to see the Iowa Cubs, I would have stayed in Des Moines."
I hope Hoyer knows what he's doing, now that Theo is gone.
BTW: I actually saw a couple Cubs/Cards games at the old stadium when I was a kid. I'm guessing around 1964.
Saw a few at the big bowl, too. Saw Gibson/Jenkins a couple times. Those were FAST games!

And, Bill Hands was even faster than Jenkins.
We went to a Giants game at Wrigley that was Hands against Gaylord Perry.
Game lasted under 100 minutes!
We saw Gibson/Jenkins 6 times. Three of those games were, you called it, 2-1.
Two were shutouts. Gibson won 2-0, Jenkins won 1-0.
Your Cards won 4 of those games.
In 5 of the games, both pitchers went all 9.
A VERY different era in baseball.
