With little fuss or fanfare, a new family of peregrine falcons has settled in for the first time at a nesting box on a stack at the Omaha Public Power Districts North Omaha Station.
The unidentified parent peregrines, one of which sports a red and black band, appear to have three chicks, said Joel Jorgensen, nongame bird program manager with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
From photos and a video the utility has posted on its website, he estimated that the chicks are about 35 days old.
Theyre really beginning to lose their down and grow their juvenile feathers, he said. They shouldnt be too far from fledging.
