I've seen ospreys from time to time near me in SoCal, I walk at a lake and I've seen them dive in and catch fish. Very exciting to see. But I've never gotten a chance to see them up close (even through a decent lens).

I once taught there, years ago. (SMC, that is, not the nest.)

I remember the municipal water tower in nearby Lexington Park often had a half-dozen or so ospreys perched on top.

near the replica sailing ship Maryland Dove at Magruder's landing, the historical/archaeological site there. I had the clearest view I had ever seen of an osprey's nest there. Ospreys were pretty common in that area; I almost hit one with my car one time.
