Does anyone know if High Island TX

is still a great place to go for birding in mid-April? I am going to be in Houston, and when I lived there, we used to go to High Island. I had heard that there was a lot of damage from hurricanes on the island, and I was wondering if it is still a good place to go.

Or is there another place along the coast that would be more desirable?

when I am there. I am a "birdwatcher", as in "I don't care what it is or if I have seen it before, I just like WATCHING birds". I did not know of this site, but it is a good resource. I appreciate it.
