A person could watch this forever...thanks for sharing!

By the way, I sometimes trout fish at Bennett Springs Missouri, and we saw these these birds on the river (Niangua River) and the park. Sometimes we canoe the river too, and this is (if you're not familiar w/ the river and area), pretty pristine and wild for the most part, and last time we went (two of us), we floated down from Moon Valley landing (a major spot to put canoes into the water) to Bennett Spring, and a heron led us the entire way from Moon Valley to the park. It was so neat and enjoyable.

Came home one day to see a heron standing in it. Pretty expensive buffet.

I buy the little ones for a few bucks a dozen and throw them into the water troughs so they will eat the mosquito larva and the algae. They will grow to about 6-8 inches long in the troughs and I never have to feed them.

One day I looked down the hill and a great blue heron was standing in the trough with one of the big grown goldfish in it's beak. I don't think the fishing was all that good, though because I never saw the bird there again.

That reminds me - I need to restock the troughs next spring. The fish will breed but they tend to decline over time. Maybe the birds and the raccoon decimate them over time.
