HERE WE GO!!! First osprey fledgling's flights I'VE seen, circling my yard.Last edited Sat Jul 17, 2021, 09:01 PM - Edit history (5)
JUST learned (after 8 p.m.,) neighbor 'thought I just saw them take off when the bald eagle showed up! Exciting!' I MISSED the bald eagle, fortunately!

1. Yaaaaay!
Training for their marathon migration?
I sure will miss them. 😢 Did parents have to nudge them out of nest? Ty for sharing! ![]() |

3. Omg, I feel empty nest tugging my heart...
I so appreciate you sharing with us!
![]() Yes, I suppose only humans experience failure to launch. ![]() ![]() That must be an awesome feeling for them to fly for 1st time! ![]() Have they fished yet? ![]() I suppose flying comes first... ![]() |

4. Flying surely comes first!
Sorry a couple old trees taken down here, as they were good perches and gave me views of fish caught.
Have another month+ before they leave, and it's really a downer when it happens. |

9. Ty, Ellen.
We can all
![]() That is a shame about the trees. How long until they fish? Probably pretty quickly, I'm guessing. ![]() |

11. Should fish SOON!
Hope to see them enjoying their catch on old tree/perch across the creek; hope neighbor trims some foliage so I get good views.

8. HEY, Chin!
They'll be around here for 1+ month, then sail on SOUTH!
Will stay south for 1+ year, then head up north. |

14. Bittersweet....
It's good to see that they are growing and learning to be fully functioning ospreys.
But it kind of feels like when my kids grew up and moved out on their own. I was so happy for them but I felt inner pangs of sadness, too. Totally bittersweet. I'm happy to report that the happiness did win in the long run. That's how I feel about these beautiful ospreys that I've been watching since they were tiny fluff-balls! All thanks to you, I might add. Thank you so, so much for the joy your photos brought to me. ![]() |

16. Aw, grandkids being a special kind of joy!
I do not have any grandchildren yet, but I will be thrilled should I be lucky enough to have a few!
How sweet that his sister wanted a hug! A big "Happy Birthday" from me to the birthday boy! Those ages--2 and 7--are soooooo much fun. You will have a great time with them! Bye-bye to Lucy and Ethel as they embark on their exciting new lives! (Or Lucy and Ricky....or Ricky and Fred....I have no clue if they are male or female...LOL!) ![]() |

20. When I see the babies in flight.
I think of the song "I believe I can fly" because it all starts with a leap of faith.
They look magnificent and seeing them in the air takes my breath away. Thanks elleng you have done a outstanding job monitoring the growth of these babies, I look forward to next years nest. |
