Birds of Ocracoke - vacation pics (so far....). "Government didn't shut the birds down" edition

Last edited Wed Oct 2, 2013, 12:17 PM - Edit history (2)

Most were taken with me in a kayak or at dusk, so a few are not great in terms of focus; others on the beach.

Toughest to get were the Kingfisher (they never sit still when I want to photograph them!), the immature Night Heron (very dusky when taken).

Great egret, Little Blue Egret, Great Blue Heron, White Ibis (various states of maturity), Sanderling, Pelican and winter coated Black Bellied Plover and Double Crested Cormorant in the following.

I miss the beautiful shore birds. The great blues live here, pelicans, sandpipers, plovers, cormorants, and a few others bless us by coming through for a few weeks each year. They can shut down our beautiful parks like Rocky Mountain Natl Park but thank heaven the birds keep on flying.

thanks. Have you seen the Snowy Owl (s) yet?

My sis saw them yesterday and sent pix.

Also there is supposed to be an extremely rare Band Tailed Pigeon at Manteo--if she gets a pic I'll post. It is a bird from the west (Pacific to West Texas) that has been recorded in NC --one individual once in a decade.

Also some Male Harlequin ducks off Rt 12 above Pea Island...
