Band Tailed Pigeon at Manteo, NC (Outer Banks)

The Band-Tailed Pigeon ranges from the Pacific Northwest to West Texas so it is extremely rare in the east. For example, in the last 3 decades there has only been one individual sited per decade in North Carolina.

This map shows the 3 counties where the three BT pigeons were sited--once in the 80's, once in the 90's and once in 2001. The bird at Manteo is the 4th and only so far in the 20-teens. The bird has never before been sited at the Carolina coast. Anybody nearby --follow the e-trail to Manteo Right Now!

My sis just texted--"saw band tail at Manteo"--it is feeding at a feeder. Very nice homeowner lets everybody onto his porch to see it.

My sis will send pix later.
