Tom Brady & Peyton Manning got NFL to change policy several years ago. Before, the home team provided them. Now, each team travels w/ their own collection of balls.

The kicking balls are sooooo important that they're standard and all shipped in a box and nobody but the officials ever get to see them pregame.

Game balls...well...apparently not that important, seeing as how they're not put under lock and key once the QBs pick out the ones they like and the officials test and initial them.

Also...we're not talking about just one person having to be comfortable with the game ball. Just because a QB is comfortable with throwing a certain type of ball, that doesn't automatically mean any of his receivers will prefer that type of ball as well.

A receiver might like a more inflated ball...a running back might prefer a softer ball.

So what's beneficial for a QB might not always be beneficial for the person having to deal with catching or running the ball for yardage or a TD.
