Toronto Argos -- John Candy

Wanted to start a John Candy thread to mark a few milestones so I stuck it here.

Pretty good story about John Candy buying into his hometown team and the final piece that yielded a Grey Cup..
Once upon a time, here in the land of ice and snow, the little Canadian Football League fought the mighty NFL for the one player everyone wanted most — and won.

Twenty-five years later, it's inconceivable that a CFL team could steal the most exciting prospect away from what is now the world's richest sports league.

It sounds like a fairy tale.

So this is the story of how a hero named Rocket and his famous friends in Hogtown fought off everything the Snow Queen could throw at them (including a can of beer) to win the silver chalice.

It starts with a Hollywood extravaganza and ends with movie stars freezing their butts off in Winnipeg.

On a recent podcast Graham Couch (Lansing State Journal) talked about the Obama-Keyes race for Senate. His editorial board at a suburban Chicago paper was split as to who they should endorse. So when they learned their editor was going to side with Keyes they shamed her into endorsing Obama.

Of course Keyes was only dropped into that race after Jeri Ryan's divorce records became public. The stories of sex clubs derailed her ex who was a rising star in the Republican party until then.

She was an extra during the filming at the St. Louis airport...she got to walk back and forth past the door that Steve Martin came in. But alas, her scene was left on the cutting room floor

Bringing it back to sports and specifically football. Pro Football seemed to have attracted these mob-related, money laudering, owners...

On February 18, 2020, President Donald Trump granted DeBartolo a presidential pardon.
