New Lead Host! Happy to help with anything that's needed.

Hi all,

Given this group hasn't had hosts active on DU in years, and I wanted to give back for how kindly people from the Gaming group have contributed to my fundraiser, I decided to request to be added to the hosting repertoire. Nobody objected, so EarlG's got that all set up.

There's not a lot to be said here regarding anything else official. I'll read the board regularly and participate, watch for any trouble makers (not really expected - this isn't exactly DU's most contentious section), and others who may want to Host can contact me about that.

To give you a little about myself, I am obviously Akoto, also known as JT! I'm 37 years old and I live in South Florida, east coast. I've been gaming my entire life, all the way back to family's Commodore and Apple computers with the Ultima series. My favorite genres would be RPGs, building-type simulations, and 4X strategy games (especially Stellaris - I love that it still has a role-playing feel to it). I have also been a longtime MMO player going back to MUDs/MUSHes, EverQuest, UO, so on. Less so these days, but I do sometimes revisit Final Fantasy XIV.

Some of you may know from the fundraiser I've been holding that I also run a gaming-related YouTube channel, Legacy Ark Games, which aims to entertain everyone but holds a special place for showcasing games accessible to persons with varying degrees of disability. It started as something to just get me out of bed, a reason to be something other than depressed in the day, and now I'm trying to turn it into a full time living. I'd welcome your subscription to the channel and hope you enjoy the videos, some of which I'll probably link to here! Mostly nerdy commentary while I do Let's Play videos. https://www.youtube.com/c/legacyarkgames

Again, if there's anything I can do for you pertaining to the Gaming group, just let me know. Maybe I can herd some more gamers over this way, too!

I kid, I kid

Seriously though, I will probably hit you up for some info on youtube. I've been broadcasting on Twitch for about a year and a half now and have a small following just short of 1300. I've been thinking about shaping up what I do a bit... Right now it's completely irregular with zero schedule or notice... Not even a steady game, I just do it whenever I want to go on a real rant... Pop in what I feel like, smoke up, get the chilled bottle of tequila and blather on for an hour or two. But the kids seem to love it

I've been thinking about making it regular... And do it a bit more sober... And uploading to youtube but I have so many questions on youtube. At some point I'll get things more together and some questions that make sense but... Good to know you are about.

That being said, please do feel free to contact me with whatever help you need pertaining to YouTube. Streaming there honestly isn't that different from streaming to Twitch. Actually, YouTube is improved these days in that respect. A lot of people went the Twitch route because it was more ready made to tip the streamer or subscribe to them. An income maker for your hobby. YouTube now has the same features.

I also have a Twitch channel - https://twitch.tv/legacyarkgames - where I am an affiliate. I was hoping to become a partner but never had the concurrent views for it. It wasn't a bad thing when I chose to use Twitch, though, because I've set up my recording software so that it streams to Twitch and YouTube at the same time. Records to both pages. Takes a little fiddling but it's good once you have it going.

Feel free to drop me a line when you want to with whatever questions you have!
