What does MMO mean?

When reading about Skyrm, I read that The Elder Scrolls might be coming out with an MMO.

A game where there is a persistant online world that you enter and leave when playing/not playing instead of the world being created on your machine only when you play. Often (not always but often) these games have an associated monthly fee.
