Ajax/Alkmaar replay - Kids Only

Ajax have confirmed that their Dutch Cup replay against AZ Alkmaar on 19 January will only be open to children, with the ground closed to the over-13s.

The last-16 match was abandoned on 21 December when a fan invaded the pitch and attacked Alkmaar's goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado, who immediately retaliated and was sent off – though his red card was later rescinded.

Ajax were initially ordered to replay the game in an empty stadium. The club appealed to the Dutch FA to allow women and children to attend, but the ruling body decided that only the latter would be permitted because of a national law of comparable treatment for men and women.

Tickets will be free for clubs and primary schools for children aged under 13, with one adult supervisor allowed in to look after every six of them.

I admit that on some level I would be tremendously amused if an almighty punch-up between rival groups of under-13 fans were to occur.

In any case, they'll be cheering an octave or two higher than usual in Amsterdam.
