Uruguay 2 Portugal 1

Not an absolute belter like France v Argentina but a very good game nonetheless.

Both Messi and Ronaldo get knocked out of the tournament on the same day, and I don't think either has ever scored in the knockout stages of the tournament!

My expectation for the first two knockout matches was very low, but they were both fantastic. I couldn't stand the thought of Portugal stinking up the tournament the way they did the last Euros, so it's a big relief to me they're out.

I don't like Ronaldo, but I do admire him and appreciated him supporting Cavani as he walked off the pitch. That was classy. I detest Pepe though (who doesn't?), and I'm relieved to see him gone also.

Germany gone, Argentina gone, Portugal gone. Italy and Holland didn't even qualify. If Brazil go out against Mexico and especially if Russia were to knock off Spain, this will officially be the craziest tournament of all time.

I predicted a Brazil - Argentina semi-final, Germany to win the tournament, Belgium to flop and Egypt to surprise. My perfect 0% record is still on!

I think Ronaldo is a fierce competitor, well deserving of all the work he has put in.
I cheered him on. Now I look forward to Brazil Mexico
