There's talk of banning every club that participates from their domestic leagues and their players from World Cups and European Cups.

They absolutely need to take a strong stand on this, and also stop trying to placate the biggest clubs with the ridiculous Champions League and other tournament expansions to try to prevent this from happening.

UEFA/FIFA have the power to prevent this: ban all clubs and players from all international competition if they get involved in this. They must take a strong stance for this Super League will be the death of football. No fans want this. The oligarchs, hedge funds and petro-state owners of the richest clubs do, but they don't have souls.

It's rare that UEFA/FIFA could ever be the good guys, but this must be their time.

I am so angry now I am not going to comment further. My club (grew up a little over a mile away, have been to over 100 games) is one of the 15 founders. I am enraged on a multiplicity of levels, especially if what I expect to happen happens with the current CL and league table.

Yes, it pulls some of the biggest clubs out of the Champions League but they shouldn't be required to compete in any tournament anyway.

What would be interesting is if they pulled out of the their domestic leagues to play a full season in the super league.

Sounds like they'll be required to play super league for the next 23 years.

Here's an NFL analogy:

Imagine the three richest teams in the NFL, let’s say Dallas, Patriots, Giants, are tired of not getting to the playoffs every year. They lose out on a ton of money by not making the playoffs.

So they say instead of the playoffs, those three will have their own playoffs and invite another team. That way they can always play in the playoffs no matter their record. They have their own little playoffs. They stopped caring about the superbowl, because they have their own little league where they can negotiate their own TV and pay per view deals overseas and make tons of money (mostly in China), and cutting the NFL out of the money.

....

That's what this is. It's not the best teams getting fed up at a system that doesn't reward merit. Instead it's the richest teams upset that merit is rewarded more than riches. About half the teams in the "super" league have never won the European Cup or the Champions league. They're just super-rich with a lot of international fans. They want to dump their old fans....maybe dump is too strong of word....let's say de-prioritize their "legacy" fans, so they can court the international market. The "legacy fans" is their word for it, too. That's what they're calling their local fans who come to the games every day.

If you're familiar with European Football, this goes against everything it's ever represented. It's a meritocracy....sure you can buy a lot of merit, but you have to deliver on the field. Most of these teams are owned by foreign owners who just want to cash in short term, and to hell with everybody else.

Without teams vying for the top four spots in each domestic league, the season will be more meaningless. It’s one of the main reasons a 20-team league can maintain drama and interest.

I predict a Peacock Plus channel to carry the games. Only $7.99 a month!

The leagues should swing back — there are myriad ways to delegitimize their operation.

Interesting that the owners make this move after the power vacuum created by the FIFA scandal. Probably also goes a long way toward explaining why UEFA went so softly on Manchester City by rescinding their ban from European play.

Jose off too.

I wonder how this is all going to play out, at first I figured it was all grandstanding to force UEFAs hand but not so sure now. Those involved all resigning from their roles and seem pretty certain of it going ahead.

I mean Jeebus, I can´t see it going ahead. Fuck those greedy fucks(excuse the cussin´).
No way a Glazer will be able to step foot on English soil again and as if Woodward didn´t learn his lesson. I genuinely fear for his safety. Back to the Green and Gold force those bastards out of our club.

Lucky there are no fans allowed in at the moment.

When we lost the cup final to Arsenal and Charlie George I am disappointed that the owners of the team I support have thrown in with this Ill conceived scheme.

I really hope this dies a quick and painful death.

I am knee deep now 2 straight days in my club group. 99% of us (we are most Brits and EU, but a few Americans and then globally scattered people) are enraged.
