Eastside Catholic president resigns amid uproar over firing

http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2022721364_sistermaryxml.html
The president and CEO of Eastside Catholic School has resigned amid unrelenting protests over her decision to dismiss the school’s vice principal for marrying his gay partner.

In December, Sister Mary Tracy fired Vice Principal Mark Zmuda, who also served as the school’s swim coach, saying his marriage to a man violated the Roman Catholic teachings he’d agreed to uphold when he began working at the school.

...

“Sister Mary came to this decision after much prayer and reflection,” said a statement emailed Tuesday to the Eastside Catholic community. “For Sister Mary it was a difficult but necessary decision so that a new leader can be brought in to ensure the entire Eastside Catholic community is on a positive path forward.”

Just gets more and more interesting! It's great to see non-bigoted Catholics standing up against their church - I wish more would do this! It's going to put the RCC in a big pickle, they'll lose no matter what they do. My guess on how things will play out: the church will stand by the decision (can't change dogma!), and a few families might pull their children from the school, but the vast majority will probably stay. I hope I'm wrong but that's how I see it.

I don't think the Clergy sees the Church as it's membership. They see them as the flock and the Priesthood as the Church. Pretty much every action they take looks to me to protect the clergy over the congregation. The child abuse scandal just the latest manifestation of this.
The priesthood itself (not the rank and file Catholics) can almost be looked at as a cult.

This is my opinion and the way I see it, your mileage may vary.
