Related: About this forumWhen does the trouble-making god of the Jews, Christians and Muslims get pulled on the carpet?
When do people who worship the god of Abraham get the message that this god is either an actively malign god or simply the creation of a Semitic tribe who needed a god who promised real estate and condoned armed warfare to reach that end?
Why has this god who apparently saw fit through-out history to involve himself with the world whether by bush, son or dictation to a peasant allowed the situation in the ME to continually worsen? All fault can be laid at his feet. He is solely to blame. If he is solely the god of Israel who Christians and Muslims glommed onto then why does he not make one more intervention to clear that up?

(40,656 posts)doing this. they could be using skin color or food as their justification. God is the excuse. The villains who did this are people. Leave god out. This is a HUMAN decision and the consequences are ours to bear alone.

(33,483 posts)he certainly spent a great deal of time with a small tribe in one area of the ancient world, seemingly to the exclusion of all others. Then he went absent for some reason.

(12,704 posts)faith itself an idol. The idea that any religion is in possession of incontrovertible truth has lead to nothing but misery and has inflated the opinion believers have of themselves and their respective beliefs.

(12,704 posts)Given that billions believe in the god of Abraham then those who see themselves as experts in the revealed word ie priests, rabbis, pastors and imans need to account for god's lack of direct involvement in a horrid state of affairs which has him at the center. Lets not forget the old testament god promised Jews a plot of land and never stated otherwise yet he allowed non-Jews to glom onto to him and paper over the belief that he chose one particular group of Semites to be His people.

(13,616 posts)If God is what people say there can be no one in the universe so unhappy as He; for He sees unceasingly myriads of His creatures suffering unspeakable miseries--and besides this foresees how they are going to suffer during the remainder of their lives. One might as well say, "As unhappy as God."
- Notebook #24, April - Aug. 1885
...a God who could make good children as easily a bad, yet preferred to make bad ones; who could have made every one of them happy, yet never made a single happy one; who made them prize their bitter life, yet stingily cut it short; who gave his angels eternal happiness unearned, yet required his other children to earn it; who gave is angels painless lives, yet cursed his other children with biting miseries and maladies of mind and body; who mouths justice, and invented hell--mouths mercy, and invented hell--mouths Golden Rules and foregiveness multiplied by seventy times seven, and invented hell; who mouths morals to other people, and has none himself; who frowns upon crimes, yet commits them all; who created man without invitation, then tries to shuffle the responsibility for man's acts upon man, instead of honorably placing it where it belongs, upon himself; and finally, with altogether divine obtuseness, invites his poor abused slave to worship him!

(9,796 posts)Maltheism describes a set of beliefs that proposes that god exists but is not worthy of worship and/or actively malevolent.
I'm a Luciferian Satanist. That's a specific subset of maltheism that proposes Lucifer has fought to free humanity from god's tyranny. For example, think of the snake in the garden (whom we identify with Lucifer). By giving us the apple, Lucifer gifted us with the capacity for moral self-determination, the ability to make our own rules, to go from "thou shalt not" to "I will not".
