Follow-up: 'Jesus welcomes you to Hawkins' sign coming down



After months of protests and controversy, the "Jesus welcomes you to Hawkins" sign is coming down.

In a Monday night closed-door meeting, city council members voted to take down the sign, News-Journal news partner KETK reports.

In June, the Freedom from Religion Foundation asked the city to remove the sign because they claimed it violated separation of church and state.

Mayor Will Rogers said the city voted to hire a private contractor to remove it, so they would not face litigation by the Freedom from Religion Foundation.
