Brooklyn Woman Claims Religious Discrimination After Being Booted From Gym Over Attire

October 2, 2015 11:21 PM

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A Brooklyn woman said she was kicked out of a gym over her workout gear, and she claimed it was a case of religious discrimination.

As CBS2’s Tracee Carrasco reported, the woman has now filed a lawsuit against the gym.

Yosefa Jalal likes to go to the gym, work out, and stay fit. But as an observant Jewish woman, she prefers to maintain her modesty while doing so.

“I don’t feel like I need to

I think on the issue of a skirt certain machines can be dangerous as i understand the gym needs to protect itself from lawsuits.

The gym's response sounds like CYA to me if this turns out to be true.

Jalal has now filed a lawsuit in Manhattan U.S. District Court, claiming that the gym is being unfair and her membership contract says nothing about working out in a skirt.

5. I would. Especially if the skirt rule is standard practice in the gym industry.

I don't serve on juries because I announce my belief in jury nullification--- John Peter Zenger and all that.

I have not been called for jury duty in 22 years.

Next year, I will reach the level of geriatricity (my new word but you can use it) where I won't be called again under any circumstances.
