Catholic Church linked to Uganda child labour

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-35220869

When the BBC team visited the farm there were up to 15 children working along with adults from the local community.

Their work consisted of gathering young tea plants stacked at the bottom of a steep hill and carrying them up the steep hill to the location of the desired point of cultivation. Children were also tasked with weeding the rows of tea plants.

In an effort to determine exactly who owned the plantation, we went to the local land registry and sought proof that the land belonged to the Church.

A local Catholic Church official confirmed to us that there had been "a business deal between the diocese and Kigezi Highland Tea" since 2013.

Do as I say, not as I do? Wouldn't be the first time the RCC was exposed for rank hypocrisy, or allowing/enabling the abuse of children, certainly.

"A local Catholic Church official confirmed to us that there had been "a business deal between the diocese and Kigezi Highland Tea" since 2013. "

But defend away.

and a corporation using that land to engage in illegal labor practices.

I repeat: the article does not say.

Sorry you consider establishing facts to be defending.

A lot of people get perturbed when facts get in the way of eager Catholic bashing.

I suppose if an organization is only concerned with legality and not anything morally right.
That is an excuse.

Although I expect you'd prefer a narrative where priests are enslaving children to pick tea leaves.

Alas, this is not that narrative.

I am much more concerned about corporations employing children to do grueling labor even into the 21st century than in parsing snarking insinuations about religious organizations.

On their land should be of no concern.
It's just business. No need to let morality or ethics get in the way of the Church making a few bucks.

And look, over there some one else is doing something bad. So nothing to see here.

that the Church doesn't have a problem with doing business with a company that uses child labor?
You don't care about that. I do.
But if you are indifferent with who the Church does business with, that is your prerogative.

Considering they couldn't give a shit about child labor, it isn't much of a stretch to think there may be some connection between the two.

Those priests must be luring children to pick tea leaves before raping them.

I can't tell if you're expressing creative speculation or wishful thinking.
