Christian Shopkeeper Hacked to Death in Latest Machete Attack in Bangladesh

Monday, June 6,2016

DHAKA – A Christian shopkeeper was hacked to death on Sunday in northern Bangladesh in a crime that is allegedly part of a wave of selective attacks by a jihadist group, which has in two months killed a dozen people.

Sunil Gomes, 60, was attacked in his shop in Baraigram, Natore district, shortly before noon (0600 GMT), the assistant superintendent of police of the area, Munshi Shahabuddin, told EFE.

“The victim received several cuts (to the head) like stab wounds. We are investigating what happened, talking to the family, to know the motive behind the murder,” he said, adding that no suspects have been arrested so far.

The past two months have seen in various parts of Bangladesh the murders of a secular activist, a professor accused of being an atheist, two gay activists, two Hindu traders, a Sufi spiritual leader, a Buddhist monk and a homeopathic doctor accused of promoting Christianity.

if someone starts spouting off about Astrology or some other superstitious bullshit.

If it's about religion I let it go unless they are obnoxious about it.

I usually don't talk about religion with people unless they want to engage (of course if someone want to challenge me about it, i will respond, but i don't initiate.

I have been known to mock with friends about other people. But who doesn't?

I meant willfully ignorant.

People who know climate change isn't real or that Obama is a Muslim.

People who think the earth is 6000 years old or won't accept evolution.

More like that.

If Trump believes half the crap he says, than I would call him very ignorant.

I guess it's not about what they don't know, but about what they claim they know.

religious imagery--it's not surprising given Pakistan's been a permanent military regime that's never won a war ...

or maybe like when Nehru invaded Goa so Menon could keep his parliament seat

Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has suggested an Israeli link to the recent killings of secular bloggers and minorities.

He said an opposition politician had met an Israeli intelligence agent and there was evidence of an "international conspiracy" against Bangladesh.

He gave no more evidence. Israel says the claim is nonsense.

Critics say the government is in denial about the killings, most of which have been blamed on or claimed by Islamists.

Anti-semitic idiot. Whether he actually supports the killings, or just looks for someone else to blame when his department can't stop them, I can't tell.
