Chief Rabbi condemns 'offensive' Corbyn anti-Semitism comments

30 June 2016 UK Politics

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has been accused by the Chief Rabbi of making "offensive" comments at the launch of a Labour party probe into anti-Semitism.

Rather than rebuilding trust with the Jewish community, Mr Corbyn caused "greater concern", Ephraim Mirvis said.

During his speech, Mr Corbyn said Jews were "no more responsible" for Israel's actions than Muslims were for "those various self-styled Islamic states".

Mr Corbyn later denied he was comparing Israel and so-called Islamic State.

Mr Corbyn had been speaking at an event to report on an inquiry set up following the suspension of MP Naz Shah and ex-London mayor Ken Livingstone amid claims of anti-Semitism.

Government who pursue a policy of land theft does not equate with being anti-Semitic.

The Chief Rabbi is using the false charge of anti-Semitism in an attempt to shut down debate that examines Israeli Government violations of International Law.

Is fairly close to mine. I would have hated to have Dubya be the blueprint with which to measure all American Christians.

I don't care for Netanyahu's right wing belligerence but he is not Israel nor is he representing all the Jews on Earth.

I think Israel has a right to peacefully exist along side of Palestine. I can't stand to see Palestinians abused any more than I can, Israelis.

I don't think opposing the land grabs makes me an antisemite. But some here may disagree.

I worry, that if every doubt about land grabs will be called antisemitic, until it doesnt describe the jack booted Aryan Nations Neonazis who are truly destructive, hate filled, and dangerous.

And I do believe that the charge of "anti-Semite" is used to shut down debate about the methods and goals of the Israeli Government.

It's more down to his quirky attire and appearance, and his fight-the-power attitude, than his actual stances I suspect.

This sort of blanket bigotry and racism is intolerant and intolerance is not a "leftish" virtue. At least, when I was coming up, it never used to be.

It's not the first time he's made sketchy comments when it comes to Jewish people, so I can understand the concern. How many times can one claim they mis-spoke or were misunderstood? After a while, the dog hears the whistle.

He can disagree with Israeli policy without that kind of language and insinuation. And he'd do well to not hang around with people who claim that all the Jews stayed home on 9/11--and he has had a problem in that regard in the past.

For transparent selfish reasons, some don't like his message.
