WASHINGTON If Donald Trump didn't completely bring down the house in his address to the Values Voter Summit on Friday, he didn't have the door to the house slammed in his face, either.
There's never been a question that Trump isn't the central casting conservative candidate. Still, Friday's speech delivered from a teleprompter did hit some crowd-pleasing notes.
And it came as religious conservative voters face a simple reality: If they don't propel Trump to the White House, their next president will be Democrat Hillary Clinton.
Trump has never been a fire-and-brimstone candidate on the level of a Ted Cruz or a Rick Santorum, and Friday's remarks steered notably clear of standard lines that often electrify Christian conservative crowds.

(10,870 posts)Unlike the Evangelicals:
Trump is not anti gay
Trump is not anti abortion (might have even paid for some, who knows).
Trump has admitted to infidelities.
Trump has had multiple marriages and baby Mommas.
Trump does not believe in war in the holy land bringing on the Apocalyse.
Trump has never fully read the Bible as "two Corinthians" exposed.
Trump cusses like a sailor.
Trump is not a regular church goer (although he might be a member somewhere?)
But, you know what, it doesn't matter to them.
He put an "R" behind his name (despite behind a D for most of his life).
And, the BIGGEST resason is that he is NOT Hillary Clinton (whom they loathe and detest for many irrational reasons that can only be understood by those who only listen to right wing hate radio and tv).
So, yes, Donald you were correct when you said that you could kill someone on 5th Avenue and you wouldn't lose any supporters.
It's like the shoppers at Walmart (best web site ever) have taken over the repub party and now they want to take over the country.
There is a little sad irony that Hillary was once on the Walmart BOD when she had closer ties to Arkansas's huge home based conglomerate. Sigh!

From Spurious quotations:
The quote is frequently misattributed to Washington, particularly in regards to his farewell address of 1796. The origin of the misquote is, perhaps, a mention of a similar statement in a biography of Washington first published in 1835. However, the quote that appeared in the biography has never been proven to have come from Washington.
