http://www.ibtimes.com/katy-perry-slams-former-religion-says-she-was-taught-fear-gay-people-2511214Perry went on to say that it was only when she started writing pop music a few years ago that she realized being gay doesnt mean you will burn in hell. In 2008, she released I Kissed A Girl, and it caused an uproar among her fellow Christians. On the other hand, a lot of people fell in love with the song and made it their anthem.
My first words were mama and dada, God and Satan. When I was growing up, homosexuality was synonymous with the word abomination and Hell, a place of gnashing of teeth, continuous burning of skin and probably Mike Pences ultimate guest list for a barbeque. So most of my unconscious adolescence, I prayed the gay away at my Jesus camps, she continued.
On her Twitter account, Perry thanked her millions of fans from across the globe for their understanding and support. The singer also said that she will always serve as the voice for the LGBT and will continue to do so with the help of her longtime friends in the industry, as well as her manager, according to USA Today.
Good for her. Glad to see someone with the celebrity status she does, out there fighting for what's right.

Probably not, if you're honest. Certainly the rest of the Christian world would oooh and aaah about it.
And it's a rhetorical technique. Not something to be taken literally.

Hate and intolerance need to be fought by all. Unfortunately, intolerance is a human characteristic that affects people of all political and belief persuasions.

Why must you cast shade on her?

(22,340 posts)That you feel you should call that a "need for attention" is puzzling. Do you say that about all artists?

It certainly sounds to me as if she needs attention.

There is plenty of that daily if you want to deal with all of their "need for attention."
That you go after someone saying something bad about religion is telling about your needs.
