NC legislators cite authority of Almighty God in bill redefining marriage as strictly heterosexual:

North Carolina House Bill Would Redefine Marriage As Only Heterosexual

Matt Shuham
APRIL 11, 2017

Three Republicans in North Carolina’s House of Representatives have introduced a bill to reverse the Supreme Court’s marriage equality ruling in the state.

H.B. 780, reported by WNCN Tuesday, states that the Supreme Court’s ruling declaring that same-sex couples are guaranteed the right to marry overstepped the court’s constitutional bounds.

The ruling also, according to the bill’s three primary Republican sponsors, “exceeds the authority of the Court relative to the decree of Almighty God that "a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh" (Genesis 2:24, ESV) and abrogates the clear meaning and understanding of marriage in all societies throughout prior history.”

Legal experts are dubious that the Supreme Court ruling would be overturned.

A similar bill in Tennessee to recognize only those marriages between one man and one woman, the Natural Marriage Defense Act, was delayed recently pending the results of two lawsuits related to same-sex marriage in the state, the Tennessean reported.

Why do these Christians think they invented marriage? Or that it was always between a man and a woman?

There is history of recorded same-sex unions around the world.[2] Various types of same-sex unions have existed, ranging from informal, unsanctioned relationships to highly ritualized unions.

Same-sex unions were known in Ancient Greece and Rome,[2] ancient Mesopotamia,[3] in some regions of China, such as Fujian province, and at certain times in ancient European history.[4]

Same-sex marital practices and rituals were more recognized in Mesopotamia than in ancient Egypt. The Almanac of Incantations contained prayers favoring on an equal basis the love of a man for a woman and of a man for man.[5]

In the southern Chinese province of Fujian, through the Ming dynasty period, females would bind themselves in contracts to younger females in elaborate ceremonies.[6] Males also entered similar arrangements. This type of arrangement was also similar in ancient European history

About all the stuff "Almighty God" approves or not. Wait, maybe I have the wrong document. I'm sure God's in there somewhere; hang on a minute, I'm sure I'll find it.

I'm still searching for the evidence that this is a Christian nation that's supposed to be in there.

they did use the form "...in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven." I think that's the only reference you'll find.

Contrary to what some people are desperate to claim, that's not always a good thing.

They focus on the parts of the bible that they think are important and disregard the rest.

I mean, if *I* were god, and a bunch of people wrote a book about what I wanted everyone to do, and the humans who wrote it down completely mucked it up, I would for damn sure intervene in "mysterious ways" to get rid of the confusion. I'd want my dear creation to have as little debate as possible as to what was best for them, and what I wanted them to do.

That the god postulated by the Christians, Muslims, and Jews DOESN'T do this can mean only one of these things:

1) He's an asshole, and doesn't care how many people suffer or die due to conflicting interpretations of his word.

2) He's an asshole, because the whole thing is just a fucking joke he can laugh at.

3) He doesn't exist, and it's just shit that ignorant humans made up to control each other.

Doesn't the existence of the new testament indicate he screwed up the first time he had humans write this stuff down?
