Related: About this forumAtheists Invite San Antonio Mayor to Meet Constituents After Anti-Atheist Remarks
https://www.atheists.org/2017/04/atheists-invite-san-antonio-mayor-meet-constituents-anti-atheist-remarks/In remarks at a candidate forum this month, San Antonio, TX mayor Ivy Taylor linked systemic poverty to a lack of a relationship with [a] creator, adding that those without such a relationship did not have good relationships with their families and communities and were not being productive members of society.
After facing outcry, Mayor Taylor posted the following statement on Facebook.
Taylors follow-up does nothing to resolve the core problem of her statement: that people are broken until they forge a relationship with a god. There is nothing that could have clarified that statement.
American Atheists National Program Director Nick Fish sent the following open letter to the Mayor, challenging her to meet with members of the atheist community to dispel negative preconceptions that she seems to have about atheists and our role within her community.

(3,425 posts)2. She is totally clueless.
While it sounds like she has promoted a lot of good causes to help the community, she insists that people worship her god if they want to succeed. How arrogant.

(1,129 posts)3. Failed attempt at pandering to the religious constituents
In attempt to distract from questionable concessions made to corporations & groups ...
Some of which were found to have made campaign contributions ....
Luckily I live in an incorporated city in Bexar County and we have our own council, Mayor , & city mgr...
so despite being surrounded by the City of SA... we are not ruled by SA/ Ms. Taylor.

Is there reason to suspect she doesn't actually believe this stuff?

Where have I heard that argument before?
Maybe we're just interpreting her words incorrectly.
