1. According to the NRA

it would be OK to shoot them. Self defense is, after all, in the mind of the threatened.

It's the one sport I can get behind.

3. Terrible idea to normalize the use of violence for political means.

They WANT you to make violence acceptable. They NEED you to do it.

They want the rules of the game established so as to favor their skills.

Giving them cover, saying it's acceptable to punch people who have odious, hateful ideas, is the worst thing we can do.

They can't flourish in a peaceful, lawful society. The police have time and focus to hunt them down when they do commit violence. Normalize violence, make punching people become a thing that is just background noise? That is an environment they CAN flourish in. That's what they want. They know the game. They WANT you to do it.

Never give them what they want.

Punching a couple Nazi's or white nationalists or whatever they are calling themselves at the moment, has done NOTHING to stop them, and has emboldened them. Political protests are now violent on a regular basis and it's getting good people hurt. With enough chaos and confusion sowed by people like them, they can 50/50 get the police to punch US too.

Don't give up your voice because someone else is saying something vicious. The fact that our political voice is getting squelched by violence is NOT a good thing. This is NOT a positive development.

If it comes down to it, we civilized people know how to deal with the 'pro extermination' folks. They are NOT going to take over. It's dark days, but if it comes down to it, we know what to do. Woody Guthrie's guitar was nice and all, but some of us have things that have literally been used to kill Nazi's, and can again, if need be. If they actually become a threat again. And that holds all around the world. Even in Germany.

They aren't coming back, and I don't think they ever will. But for fuck's sake, don't help them. Don't cede them power by making violence normal.


Edit: Think of it the other way around. WHY are Nazi's so fucking odious? Because they want to hurt people. I don't see a way to defeat the ideas they represent, by becoming more like them, and hurting people because *I* think it's justifiable.
