Good news: Meet the clergy who stared down white supremacists in Charlottesville

From the article:

Asked what it was like to march through the streets of Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend, evangelical author and FreedomRoad.us founder Lisa Sharon Harper was blunt.
“It really felt like every step you take could be your last,” she said, later adding: “With each step, I just kept holding on to the call to love.”

Our church group will be holding a vigil this Saturday in Chicago. If I could find a Confederate flag to burn I would. I am looking for one.

Everyone.

You can make a Confederate flag that is suitable for burning with a piece of cloth and some fabric paint, or any other paint for that matter. It's probably better not to buy one. Why put money in the pockets of the manufacturers and sellers of this hate symbol?

Although maybe not in Chicago.

Excellent point about beliefs.

And one hopes that thousands more will talk of what happened this next weekend, and that this will inspire more conversations. Not all of us can go there, but we can all bear witness in our own areas.

If not the outright hatred of other people, just lying and insulting others. I know Christians like that.

So when Christians are good, they're a good example of their religion.

When Christians are bad, it's because people are bad.

That's a despicable, anti-human way of thinking, but I understand.

I've freely stated it many times.

I post to counter religious bigotry. That's my motivation, and I'll proclaim it for all to see.

"We began to stir against slavery. Hearts grew soft, here, there, and yonder. There was no place in the land where the seeker could not find some small budding sign of pity for the slave. No place in all the land but one -- the pulpit. It yielded at last; it always does. It fought a strong and stubborn fight, and then did what it always does, joined the procession -- at the tail end. Slavery fell. The slavery text remained; the practice changed, that was all." From: "Bible Teaching and Religious Practice from Europe and Elsewhere and A Pen Warmed Up In Hell" by Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens).

It yielded at last; it always does. It fought a strong and stubborn fight, and then did what it always does, joined the procession -- at the tail end.

And of course, claimed - as always - that they were at the forefront and it couldn't have happened without them.
