It is insulting to everyone else to highlight one particular church official for simply being a decent human being.

Arpaio would not have been pardoned. And this is the religion group. If a prominent non-theist denounces the pardon I suggest you post that in the Atheist group.

FFS, you lecture everyone else about not properly repeating your claims, and you go and do shit like this. No wonder nobody takes you seriously.

as an Atheist I cannot possibly have a basis for morality.

You gonna sit there and say something like that to an atheist with a straight face like nobody is going to get pissed off about it?

Cardinal Mahony barred from public ministry in Los Angeles

Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez has barred his predecessor, Cardinal Roger Mahony, from any public ministry in Los Angeles.

"Effective immediately, I have informed Cardinal Mahony that he will no longer have any administrative or public duties," Gomez said in a letter Thursday.

He cited Mahony's alleged failures to protect young people from sexually abusive priests -- documented in court filings in recent years -- as grounds for the decision, in church terms, to bar the cardinal from any future public activities in the Los Angeles archdiocese.

Clearly an expert on morality.

Am I supposed to now congratulate the Cardinal? I think not. I have seen other things that the Cardinal has done, which I also find disgusting.

I'm glad he feels that way, but it's a matter of no serious importance to me, nor does it obviate his other disgusting behavior.
