Gumby

Long ago, I attended a showing of Gumby cartoons at which the creator, Art Clokey, did a talk and fielded questions.

The most interesting thing that came up was the origin of two characters, the Blockheads. See if you can guess why I post this in the religion forum.

Art said that he chose the letters J and G because they were most suited to look like ears. It didn't take him long though to realize his subconscious chose them because they stood for Jesus and God.

Art was a spiritual guy. He started out doing those Davey & Goliath cartoons for some Lutheran group. Seeking answers he couldn't get from Christianity, he explored Buddhism and Indian philosophy.

The mind works in unpredictable ways. The subconscious often delivers hidden truths. As NeoGreen pointed out, he gave those letters to two recurring villains.
