Irish_Dem
(46,924 posts)He implied it was deliberate and structural.
Same strategy the British used to subjugate the Irish via starvation and poverty.
I like the quote so much I may use it for my sig line.
trotsky
(49,533 posts)It is good King was able to recognize that yes, there is such a thing as religious bigotry.
guillaumeb
(42,641 posts)And when we can recognize ourselves as having such limitations and inconsistencies.
trotsky

(9,116 posts)Dr. King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech at the 1963 March on Washington, co-organized by A. Philip Randolph.
Randolph was a probably an atheist. We don't know for certain because he couldn't admit, out loud and in public, that he was an atheist and remain useful to the civil rights movement. He did sign the Humanist Manifesto II, which is a pretty strong indicator of atheism as it completely rejects the validity and usefulness of theism.
Today, virtually no one you run into on the street will know who A. Philip Randolph was. But we're to believe progressive people of faith aren't getting enough attention.

Our planet teeters on the brink of atomic annihilation; dangerous passions of pride, hatred, and selfishness are enthroned in our lives; truth lies prostrate on the rugged hills of nameless calvaries; and men do reverence before false gods of nationalism and materialism human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted."

(42,641 posts)I prefer to look at the whole picture.
Irish_Dem
(46,924 posts)Seems odd to me, but there it is.
One reason I don't post much in this group any more.
guillaumeb
(42,641 posts)And that might be what is wanted, to discourage certain posters.
Irish_Dem
(46,924 posts)Seems odd to me, such a liberal place, but we get harassed when
we discuss religious issues in the religion group.
guillaumeb
(42,641 posts)as long as it focuses exclusively on negatives.
Irish_Dem
(46,924 posts)We don't go the atheist group and start yanking them up one side and down the other.
Every one has a unique view and journey and that is as it should be.

I think he was being funny.
I am commenting that everyone likes to fight in this group, and he starts a fight with me in response. Pretty funny.
