Russian Orthodox Choral Music - Long Video

You might find this almost 50-minute video suitable for background music or contemplative background music for meditation purposes. The language is Old Church Slavonic, which is closely related to modern Russian.

Which is really just older Russian with a few OCS words added plus their own ideosyncratic pronunciation of jers.

I can (perhaps that's really "could", haven't tried recently) read Old Church Slavic. Anybody can pick up a Bible written in Church Slavic, though, and read it if you deal with a few odd words. Of course, even if it's written in old orthography modern Russians wouldn't pronounce the jers.

Old Russian was more similar to OCS than Church Slavic but lost the years by 1250 (and lots earlier in most places). In OCS the jers were going by 900 AD.

(Even had to learn how to read Glagolitic script. It was painful. Can't do that now. Wouldn't do that now.)

Very occasionally, I attend a service at our local Russian Orthodox Church, just to have a chance to exchange a bit of conversation with Russian speakers. The congregation is very welcoming to this poor speaker.
