VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Francis warned Italian bishops this week to vet carefully applicants to the priesthood and reject anyone they suspected might be homosexual, local media reported on Thursday.

Bergoglio and his church remain a bastion of bigotry.

not least in the apparent perpetuation of the pedophiles are homosexual myth. I'm assuming that is what the Pope believes he is dealing with? This flies in the face of his reported remark to the gay man that god made him what he is and loves him, so I'm reluctant to believe Francis would bar gays qua gays from the priesthood.

The Pope apparently believes these things:

1. God loves gay people and made them the way they are.
2. Gay men should not be priests.

There's nothing contradictory here. The Pope also believes:

1. God loves women and made them the way they are.
2. Women should not be priests.

How is the first pair of beliefs different than the second?

So why does the Pope care whether a priest has wet dreams about a man or woman?

to do something that could be embarrassing for the Church, like molest children.

But keeping homosexuals out isn't going to solve the problem. He doesn't seem ready to deal with the Church's institutional problems that protect pedophiles.

On edit: That's what makes the two statements different. He doesn't want gay men because he thinks they will do something bad. He doesn't want women because they were born with the wrong genitals.

of the post I was answering, they are the same. The poster thought this contradicted what the Pope is reported to have said to that man. It doesn't.

7. "Cautiously optimistic"

"I criticize him when he's wrong, praise him when he's right"
"He can't change everything overnight"
"But the Cardinals and Bishops will assassinate him if he behaves like a decent human being"
"The Pope is Catholic"

Remember when we used to hear these excuses at least once a day? Now that it is abundantly clear skeptics of Frankie's intentions were right all long, our cautiously optimistic friends are susupiciously silent.

Well, the ones that didn't themselves ban-hammered for being horrible, that is.

"He can't change everything overnight"

He's now been pope for 5 years. Apparently nights last really, really long in the Catholic church.

Nothing has changed. To the church, homosexuals must still remain celibate. To the church, the transgendered are unnatural and gender theory is akin to Naziism. To the church, women can never hold leadership roles. To the church, divorced couples are committing adultery if they get a new partner. Everything is still the same.

Provided the ONLY reason you are using a rubber is to keep from getting HIV. That overnight change only took about 30 years and a few million deaths.

No women as priests.
No gay men as priests.

Only men who have no interest in sex, getting married, or having a family can be priests? That sounds like they should start recruiting on the "incel" websites, then. They'll find plenty of misogynistic, homophobic guys there to fill all the empty seats in their seminaries, maybe.

To Il Papa: Uff da!
