Pope promises 'never again' to sex abuse in Chile, re-opens investigation

Philip Pullella, Dave Sherwood
4 MIN READ

VATICAN CITY/SANTIAGO (Reuters) - Pope Francis on Thursday promised Chilean Catholics scarred by a culture of clergy sexual abuse that “never again” would the Church ignore them or the cover-up of abuse in their country, where a widespread scandal has devastated its credibility.

The pope issued the comments in a letter to all Chilean Catholics as the Vatican announced that Francis was sending his two top sexual abuse investigators back to the country to gather more information about the crisis there.

The Vatican’s most experienced sexual abuse investigator, Archbishop Charles Scicluna of Malta, and Father Jordi Bertomeu, a Spaniard, had visited Chile earlier this year.

In the letter released by Chilean bishops, Francis also praised the victims of sexual abuse in the country for persevering in bringing the truth to light despite attempts by Church officials to discredit them.

The Pope has been protecting him for over 3 years and lied about not having evidence despite one of the victims giving him a letter in 2015.

It took over 25 years for them to fire Karadima despite knowing what was going on since the 80’s. I guess anything less than that is a “beginning”.

The only reason the Pope is giving any of this lip service now is because there’s been massive protests that are spreading throughout Latin America.

We can always count on the RCC to do the right thing, so long as there’s no other option. So far they have done nothing other than lip service.

Against the explict wishes of many Chileans, 30 of his own priests, and 51 members of the National Congress, Frankie appointed accused rape-enabler Juan Barros Madrid bishop of Osorno. When the people protested during his visit, Frankie accused them of "slander".

This is a "good beginning" to you?

Or did you mean, "I'm looking into it" is a better place to begin than the part where Frankie cast shade on rape survivors, their families, and supporters? Beacuse, yeah, from a PR standpoint that makes sense.

To this point, all the pope has done is offer up words.

So yeah, you can get excited, but the rest of us aren't fooled. And all your silly insults and attacks won't change that.

This whole incident had a fucking TERRIBLE beginning. The pope BASHED the victims at the beginning! Are you fucking kidding me?

And now that Bergoglio has been pope for 5 years, the time for "beginnings" is past. It's time for ACTION.

More like a "spurius intermission".

As we all know we MUST tolerate child rapists, or we are intolerant. So there’s always the obligatory half-fast intolerance allegation.

The only thing that’s left to decide is who is the biggest shitstain on society. Those who participate in the cover up of child rapists, or their apologists.

Like for example Bergoglio, Bishop of Rome, who recently called the victims speaking up a bunch of liars.
