A Vatican opening on sexuality worries conservatives -- and cheers reformers

From the article:

…...The problem for the conservatives lies in the first line of the relevant section of the final document. It reads:
“There are questions related to the body, to affectivity and to sexuality that require a deeper anthropological, theological and pastoral exploration, which should be done in the most appropriate way, whether on a global or local level. Among these, those that stand out in particular are those relative to the difference and harmony between male and female identities and sexual inclinations.”

Translation: The Catholic hierarchy is acknowledging that the church needs to update its understanding of the science of sex and gender, and that also means updating the church’s theology on sexuality and its ministry to gay people.

If one asks, "what would Jesus do?", implicit in that question is, "what did Jesus say?".

Because as yet they haven’t and are still very much heavily institutionalized homophobia and there’s little reason to believe there will be change.

And as I stated in another post, when/if the institutional RCC fully accepts and welcomes every variation of human gender, that will/would be a good thing.

The Church couldn't convert, was too far for a field goal attempt, so they punt the ball to the other team.

Of course, there could be information in the article at the link that justifies your optimism. But, if so, you didn't include that in your excerpt, for some reason.

ETA: After reviewing the entire article, the ruling on the field stands. Punt. Maybe they'll do better during their next possession.
