How Would Jesus Vote?
From the article:
For most of the last 40 years, the notion that one's Christian beliefs should guide one's voting has largely been promoted by conservative Republicans.....
This year, a Democratic presidential candidate, Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Ind., is making the same argument, with a twist: A vote based on Christian values, Buttigieg suggests, would indeed turn the country around, but in a "progressive" direction. Buttigieg says protecting the poor and welcoming immigrants is a Christian obligation that is inconsistent with Republican priorities.... Buttigieg's suggestion that liberals be willing to say that "Christian faith is going to point you in a progressive direction," as he told USA Today columnist Kirsten Powers, provoked some outrage on the right. One conservative academic argued that Buttigieg "doesn't get to make up his own Christianity," and another conservative dismissed Buttigieg's comments as "partisan nonsense." 6. My view is that many in the GOP prefer to limit Christianity
to fit within their own narrow views.

11. In theory, yes
In reality someone else makes up their mind for them which is the whole point of organized religion to begin with. Progressive politics are incompatible with close mindedness which is why any progressive use of religion is doomed to failure. You will always be trying to drag people out of the stone age.

4. Vote? He would have no chance to do so.
He would not be a citizen. In his own supposed time and place, there was no voting.
It is a useless sort of imaginary question, really, isn't it? Trying to guess what a demigod would do is really a bit presumptuous, if you believe in that sort of thing, I think. |

In my view.

5. Wouldn't candidates be obligated to tithe 10% of their campaign funds to the church
in order to lobby for Jesus's vote?

10. Why does it matter?
If everyone voted on what was better for their fellow human beings instead of trying to figure out what a god wants, perhaps we'd be better off.

13. Inevitably someone else is telling them what god wants so they don't have to figure it out
Close mindedness and conservative politics go together like drunk and disorderly.

14. Hitler
It says so right in the bible. Metaphorically. Plus there is no evidence that he didn't say he would vote for hitler, which as we now know, in this forum that is conclusive proof.

15. Just as important, how would Gatsby vote?
I mean, if we are going to ask about how literary figures would vote in 2020, at least let's talk about the cool ones.
How about Atticus Finch? |
