Woman arrested in Poland over posters of Virgin Mary with rainbow halo

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of offending religious sentiment, after posters bearing an image of the Virgin Mary with her halo painted in the colours of the rainbow flag appeared in the city of Płock in central Poland.
...
A Płock police spokeswoman confirmed a 51-year-old woman had been arrested over the alleged offence. The woman had been abroad, but upon her return, the police entered and searched her home, where they found several dozen images of the Virgin Mary with the rainbow-coloured halo.
...
Offending religious feeling is a crime under the Polish penal code. If convicted, the woman could face a prison sentence of up to two years.

Brudziński, who described the posters as “cultural barbarism” when they appeared overnight in April, said: “Telling stories about freedom and ‘tolerance’ doesn’t give anyone the right to offend the feelings of believers.”

Yeah, the interior minister admits publicly to being offended by freedom and tolerance being associated with his religion, so his goons have arrested her. This is unashamed totalitarianism. His Leader (German 'Fuhrer', Italian 'Il Duce' - anyone know the Polish?) is busy scaremongering against minorities - both sexuality and immigrant:

“We are dealing with a direct attack on the family and children – the sexualization of children, that entire LBGT movement, gender,” said the PiS leader, Jarosław Kaczyński, speaking to supporters last month. “This is imported, but they today actually threaten our identity, our nation, its continuation and therefore the Polish state.”

I'm sure some of the dominionists here in the USA would love to pass laws prohibiting sacrilegious things like that. If you can be arrested for depicting Mary with a rainbow halo, that's really frightening.

Christian oppression of alternative ways of thinking? Who'd have thought it?

For now, I guess Christians in the US will have to keep relying on making internet death threats when someone does something they think is sacrilegious.

Oh wait, that’s the apologist “counterpoint” to child rape. Can we still use the CAs for this too?

Sometimes, though, offending is the best choice. People also have the right not to take offence from others. Occasionally, just existing is an offense to some. That can't be helped.

Poles stage protest rally in support of LGBT activist

WARSAW (Reuters) - Hundreds of Polish gay rights activists staged a protest rally on Tuesday evening over the brief detention of a woman who posted images near a church of the Virgin Mary with her halo painted to resemble the rainbow flag of the LGBT community.

Elzbieta Podlesna was questioned for almost five hours on Monday after police raided her home in Warsaw, the daily Gazeta Wyborcza reported. She remains free but could face up to two years in prison if charged with offending religious beliefs.

The prosecutor in charge of the case has so far said only that Podlesna is a suspect in an ongoing investigation.

The case highlights divisions within devoutly Catholic Poland ahead of European and national parliamentary elections in which the conservative ruling Law and Justice Party (PiS) party hopes to make LGBT rights a battleground with the more liberal opposition.

“It’s important because we see an attack on LGBT people and queer people, but also because it is aimed at activists, they just want to scare us,” said one protester, Anna Pietrucha, 26, who held a poster of the Virgin Mary with the rainbow.
