Southern Baptist president says racial insensitivity shows disregard for the gospel

From the article:

Speaking at a black church Sunday (June 9) in a city that is nearly 75% percent African American, the president of the Southern Baptist Convention, J.D. Greear, said white Christians who are racially insensitive are disregarding the gospel.
“I do not need to tell this church the church of the West has had a horrible history of racism,” Greear, a pastor in North Carolina, told Sixth Avenue Baptist Church.
“And there’s one primary reason that that happened: Christians lost touch with the gospel.”...

“The gospel teaches us that there’s only one kind of person: human,” said Greear. “We’ve all got the same problem: sin.”

3. This is how Jesus treated someone of a different ethnicity

who came to him for help.

A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly." Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, "Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us." He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel." The woman came and knelt before him. "Lord, help me!" she said. He replied, "It is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to the dogs." "Yes it is, Lord," she said. "Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table." Then Jesus said to her, "Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted." And her daughter was healed at that moment. Matthew 15 : 22-28 (NIV)

So, first Jesus rudely ignored her, then he compared her to a dog begging for scraps, then he finally helped her, but only after she groveled and debased herself enough to suit him, and agreed with his characterization of her as an unworthy animal.

did you miss this part?

10. Pretty edgy to take a stand against white supremacy

We should all applaud the SBCs firm progressive position on this subject only 150 years after the 13th Amendment.

17. "Is bad" has been the normative take on racism since at least the 1960s.

But whatever, let's gargle this guy's balls anyway. If we don't, he might vote Republican.

Oh. Wait.

5. "Christians lost touch with the gospel." What a steaming pantload of historical revisionism.

Racist Christians have always found plenty of support in the bible.

The pretzel logic of Metaphorical Jesus® is an order of magnitude higher than fundamentalism.

9. He also uses the gospel to preach against the right to abortion

...and says that homosexuality is a sin, but the SBC should embrace the LGBTQ community to help them pray away the gay.

So sure, why not prop him up as someone progressives should follow kinda like pope Frank.

What's a little bigotry against the LGBTQ community between friends, amirite?

15. Sure, it's not like he demanded political purity of Hitchens, right?

So it’s only fair we give him a pass for the 2nd time in about a week he promoted someone who ardently advocates for the destruction of abortion rights.

22. The Southern Baptist Church formed in 1845 because they supported slavery

and the Northern Baptists didn't; it took the SBC until 1995—130 years after the end of the Civil War—to apologize for it.

"And there’s one primary reason that that happened: Christians lost touch with the gospel."

The Southern Baptist Church used the gospel to justify slavery. He's very plainly choosing to distort (read: lie about) his own church's history. Unreal that this gets posted here as if he's doing something laudable.

and misogyny because overt racism is out of style at the moment.

Why are you promoting one of the most right wing religious cults?
