Remember the number of laws passed over the last few years that ban the weraing of face coverings?

The lawmakers generally claimed that these laws were necessary for public safety, and were not targeting any particular religions.

Does anyone think that people wearing masks in public will be charged under these laws?

1. In the US at least, I could see it happening in red states

where the virus is still "fake news."

The religious right isn't done on that issue yet.

10. An uprising?

That did not work out so well for the US in the 1860s.

Like the dipshit Bundy family standoff.

2. Depends on the ethnicity of the mask wearer

News yesterday that two black men were asked to leave a Walmart due to the mask that they were wearing.

5. I don't think any of those laws required removal of face coverings for medical reasons.

For instance, you could wear an oxygen mask in public. Workers could wear full PPE in public for asbestos abatement, paint, paint removal, etc.

There just needs to be a valid reason for it, beyond 'my imaginary friend says so'.

6. Speaking of reasons, and a valid reason for,

there is, and was, no real reason for these various bans that just happened to target Muslim women. Other than the obvious reason of open Islamophobia, of course.

7. Tend to agree, but as far as France goes, this is a pretty tame example of it.

Like, this is the shit you sweep up after major civil rights issues are resolved. In fact, it's going to make the overall issue worse, because these sorts of things are radicalizing the Muslim population of France of which, fewer were practicing until provoked by this stuff.

So it's strange. It's a practice I don't respect, but it is their right, but it's also a form of oppression, for both sides, and also trying to stamp religion out is almost always violently counter-productive so yeah...

Situation as normal when you mix politics, religion, and humans.

9. An excellent ending.

I deal with a number of very progressive Muslim women in my area. About 1/2 wear the hijab. So the only thing I can conclude is that some Muslim women choose to wear the hijab.

I had 2 cousins who were in a religious order. Both covered their hair, even after that order was relaxed in the 1960s.

16. it isn't much of a choice if your community

demands compliance and your refusal to comply can have devastating consequences.

Some Muslim women have a choice, some donít.

17. And of those who freely choose?

Are they acquiescing in their own subjugation?

Are they too unintelligent to make a choice?

18. You don't know if they freely choose. You cannot know.

But regardless, here we are with an epidemic killing thousands here in the US, on its way to killing hundreds of thousands, and you're trying to redirect the fear and anger at people you don't like, which is ironically exactly what you accuse them of doing.

Absolutely fucking pathetic. You should be ashamed of yourself, but you won't be.

When I speak about faith with these Muslims, and I have had a number of such conversations, they speak of submission to the will of Allah.
